Causes and solutions when engine fuel consumption is on the high side

Home / Technical Articles / Details ...
2011-11-2
Cause 1: Incorrect operator technique; solution: to explain the proper operation of the engine operation method.
Cause 2: The wheels tachometer or speedometer calibration error; Solution: Check the wheel tachometer and odometer calibration value. If necessary, calibrate or replace the wheel tachometer or speedometer, mileage calculation with the new fuel consumption.
Cause 3: The existing code is working or electronic fault code fault high-frequency current meter times; solution: reference fault code analysis.
Cause 4: Select the characteristics of the programmable parameters and incorrect; solution: use the electronic service tools to check the selected programmable parameters and features. If necessary, reset the parameters and characteristics.
Cause 5: The electronic control module (ECM) is not calibrated or the calibration is not correct; solution: will be stored in the electronic control module (ECM) in the calibration data and engine specifications and the Notice No. 3379133 of the control part catalog number (CPL) compared to. If necessary, calibration of the electronic control module (ECM).
Cause 6: The engine idle speed or PTO time is too long; Solution: Check the engine idle speed with INSITETM or PTO time. Idle time is too long (more than 10 minutes) will lead to lower oil and coolant temperature.
Cause 7: auxiliary device consumption of fuel in the vehicle fuel tank; Solution: Check the fuel consumption of auxiliary devices. Reference OEM service manual.
Cause 8: equipment and environmental factors affect fuel consumption; solution: When assessing fuel consumption, the need to consider the ambient temperature, wind, tire size, axle alignment, driving routes, and the use of assistive devices such as pneumatic impact.
Cause 9: Additional power consumption of the vehicle is too large; Solution: Check whether Dragging vehicle brake, gearbox failure occurred, and the cooling fan of the work cycle time of transmission and engine work correctly. Reference OEM service manual.
Fault 10: Powertrain and engine is not properly matched; Solution: Check the gears and transmission components are correct. Reference OEM service manual.
Fault 11: intake manifold pressure (boost) sensor or circuit failure; Solution: Check the boost sensor and circuit.
Fault 12: vehicle speed sensor (VSS) or circuit failure; solution: electronic service tools to monitor the vehicle when the vehicle is not moving faster. Reference manual for the corresponding electronic service tools. Such as a monitor showing speed, check the engine sensor and circuit.
Fault 13: vehicle speed sensor (VSS) by the interference; Solution: Check whether the vehicle speed sensor and circuit interference. Check for fault code 242. If necessary, repair the sensor circuit.
Fault 14: fuel leakage; Solution: Check the fuel lines, fuel fittings and fuel filter for leaks. Check the tubes leading to the fuel tank. Reference OEM service manual.
Fault 15: intake or exhaust leaks; Solution: Check the intake and engine exhaust system for leaks.
Fault 16: Air - air cooler obstruction or leakage; Solution: Check the air - air cooler air without obstruction or leakage.
Fault 17: intake system resistance exceeds specifications; Solution: Check the engine intake system is blocked. If necessary, clean or replace the air filter and intake manifold.
Fault 18: exhaust system resistance exceeds specifications; Solution: Check the engine exhaust system is blocked.
Fault 19: Oil level beyond technical specifications; Solution: Check the engine oil level. Sure oil gauge has been calibrated and sump capacity. Add the system to the requirements of the oil level.
Cause 20: The use of incorrect grade of fuel or fuel of poor quality; solution: a box of high-quality fuel with the engine running.
Fault 21: overhead restructuring is not correct; solution: measure and adjust the overhead institutional settings.
Fault 22: injector fault; solution: automatic cylinder performance test. If necessary, replace the injector.
Fault 23: internal engine damage; solution: analysis of the oil and check the filter to determine the possible damage to the site.
